6055 - 8/1 2024 LEGAL / PUBLIC NOTICE Middlefork Township in Vermilion County is proposing the demolition and replacement of the structure carrying Township Road 42A (350 East Road) over the Middle Fork Vermilion River. The project is located south of the village of Armstrong or 0.2 miles south of U.S. Highway 136 in Section 1, Township 21N, Range 14W in Vermilion County. Whereas this project will be funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration and pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 144, any entity which proposes to demolish a NRHP eligible listed bridge and asks for federal participation in funding the project shall first make the bridge available for donation to a state, local, or responsible entity. In accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, the views of the public and interested parties are being sought regarding the effect of the project. Middlefork Township is also offering this structure for donation to any qualifying state agency, local public agency, or responsible entity, as soon as they agree to enter into an agreement to the following conditions: 1. Maintain the structure and the features which represent its historical significance, and 2. Assume all future legal and financial responsibility for the structure, which may include an agreement to hold Middlefork Township and the Vermilion County Highway Department harmless in any liability action. The costs associated with moving this structure shall be the responsibility of the entity requesting to move the structure. Interested parties should send a letter expressing their comments, or interest in the structure, by October 31, 2024 to the following address.
